Brief Family History:

Expectations for Alaric Johann Ritter had been high from day one. Potentially from conception. The Ritters hadn’t always been a prominent pureblood family, but Ottokar Ritter worked hard to change that. He excelled in school, with the secret talent of finding exactly the right people to network with, and soon was moving through political circles like a snake through water. He married three times; the first to an up and coming starlet, who divorced him when she realized he was having an affair (and making no attempt to hide it, really). His second wife was a prominent stylist and magazine editor, whom he divorced for ‘irreconcilable differences’ (which began when her magazine started declining in popularity). His third wife would turn her nose up at both. Born in Germany, Gretchen Strauss accepted nothing less than perfection her entire life. She excelled in music, in literature, and most of all in dance. She attended Beauxbatons Academy for the diploma only - her true career began when she auditioned and was accepted into the famous Austerlitz dance company at the age of thirteen. She married Ottokar for status, and his motivations were the same. Some would say the best relationships are formed out of mutual arrangements such as these, and the Ritters would agree.

Ottokar, having married Gretchen not long after his 53rd birthday, was not entirely expecting to be a father. Still, he was never one to back away from a challenge, and fatherhood was just another trial to be victorious in. Alaric was set up with a nanny who specialized in teaching babies to read, to walk and to talk early. When he turned three, he shed the nanny and moved on to tutors in language and - at his mother’s insistance - music and dance. Young Alaric constantly amazed his instructors with his willingness to bang on his miniature piano whilst shrieking with nonsensical glee and also his uncanny talent at falling all over his own feet. Still, his tutors knew the more they went along with their young charge’s whims, the longer they’d be able to cut a check. They persisted, and by the time Alaric was beginning real lessons in arithmetic and geology, he was also playing scales and arpeggios with ease. Soon, the young Ritter was reveling in the attention his success brought him - and frustrated that the only attention he really wanted (from his parents), he never seemed to get. His mother was the more doting of the two, but her idea of attention was to bring Alaric to endless auditions, placing him in commercials and recitals along with piling on his lessons. The attention he gained from outside sources was extremely validating, and he began to avidly seek it out, himself.

At the age of ten, Alaric (with the help of his agent, and his mother), started his own youtube channel. He immediately posted several videos of himself performing his favorite songs, as well as demo reels of his various commercials. This is something he is intensely proud of, and expects that it will bring him fame (he can name at least one young popstar who gained his reknown in the same way, and hopes to follow his footsteps). When Ottokar found out about his dabbling in muggle electronic devices for nothing other than his own pleasure, he became furious. For three months, he was banished from his artistic lessons, instead forced to focus on his ‘mundane’ school work and little else. Those three months were heavy with stress and fear from all sides that his Hogwarts letter would never come. Young Alaric had slammed a few doors in anger without exerting much force in the past, but there was no telling if that was enough to obtain admission to the prestigiuous school. At the end of his three month banishment, his letter came. This lifted a great pressure off of Alaric, and Ottokar allowed him to resume his own pursuits because of it. In a small way, Alaric feels like he owes the school his life.

Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): Alaric is a quick learner. He adapts to new situations with ease, and has a natural ability to fit himself in snugly in social situations - if he so chooses (which he rarely does…. see weaknesses). He is extremely outgoing and, in his own unique way, can be charismatic. Beneath the surface, he has a true and genuine heart. He is devoted to the people he loves with an intense passion that almost rivals his determination to pursue a creative, musical career. Alaric excels at most classwork - if he so chooses (which he rarely does…. again, see weaknesses), but has trouble with wandwork. He lacks focus and concentration unless he is completely invested in a task. His best class is Astronomy, and his other strengths would be Potions, and History, except that he rarely puts forth the effort.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): At eleven years of age, Alaric can be summed up nicely in one word; annoying. He is loud-mouthed, has no filter, expects everything to go his way and constantly needs to be the center of attention. For every bit of hard work he devotes to the things he loves to do, he is equally as lazy when it comes to things he dislikes. He is avoidant, and will simply refuse to do mundane things such as “homework” if he can’t justify their existance (i.e. the point of going ‘home’ is not to do any more ‘work). He can be downright mean to people he dislikes, and makes no attempt to hide his emotions. Academically, Alaric barely treads water in most classes. He will downright refuse to do anything which bores him, and his work suffers in Charms, Transfiguration, and will eventually hit rock bottom in most non cores. He frustrates professors endlessly by scoring near perfects on tests, and alternately snoring during class or eating his own notes out of boredom.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: Alaric is a straight down the middle split. He has an intensity about him when he is involved in what he loves. He refuses to be held back or to give up an almost unreasonable dream, will sacrifice anything to achieve his goals, and can often come off as, well, snarky. He’d fit into Slytherin easily, and excell there. On the other hand, he is creative and bright, clever, and quick witted. His views on the world are unique, and he is unwilling to compromise them simply because they’re not the same as others. Ravenclaw would suit him perfectly. When it boils down to it, because of outside influences and reluctance to follow in his father (a Slytherin)’s footsteps, Alaric will beg to be placed in Ravenclaw.

“To me, someone’s sexuality is usually the least interesting thing about them. It’s secondary. The only reason it becomes a source for dramatic storytelling is because people have made such an issue out of it.”
